The Kitchen...nearly finished

Okay, so the kitchen isn't completely finished, but there has been major progress since my last post on this subject.
As you can see it still needs some finishing touches, but I'm certain they'll be complete soon.
I really enjoy having it so open with so much usable space. Nate and I can been in there together and not lose our minds!
Here's the view from where Nate knocked out the wall separating the kitchen from the dining room.
Our fridge moved to another wall and is now flanked by nice deep pantries. (I did have a Sleeping with the Enemy moment when I was organizing them...labels out and everything lined up)
The view from our dining room. Now completely open with a usable counter top. All we need are some stools!
I look forward to getting the finishing touches done in the next week or so...and then I'm on to the family room!

Flooring too!

Over the weekend Nate tackled putting into the new floor. It looks fantastic!

I can't wait to see what happens next!

Painting...done!

After spending the mid-April snowstorm with my mom in the kitchen...the painting is done! (Thanks Mom)

Caroline was disappointed that it wasn't pink, but I hope she comes around to the new color.

Oh Where...

(Warning, the following images aren't from an episode of Hoarders...it's actually my house. Perhaps it's a too-honest look at its current state) Oh where has my kitchen gone?

Why, I think it's in my living room.

And my hall closet. (Yes, I freak out when I see how completely disorganized this is!)

But after about fifteen minutes of searching, I found my coffee pot! I immediately had to find a safe new home for it.

And since our kitchen table is in the living room and is serving as our pantry, a card table will be our new eating location.

Ahhh...it's good to be home!

And Caroline agrees!

Feeling a little green...

During the kitchen demo, Nate unearthed this lovely green linoleum. Caroline hopes that it's our new floor... When she saw it she gasped and exclaimed that it was beautiful. I hope she thinks the same about our new tile!

Demo...Done!

Caroline and I headed to my parents' house over the weekend so Nate could get some major demo work done in our kitchen. Here's the progress...

Here's where the fridge and pantry were located. Now you can see the dining room!

The fridge was moved to the wall where the beautiful wallpaper was located.

And here is another view of the opposite wall.

What We Started With...

When bought our house (almost a year ago) we were so happy that it was "move in ready". We had a fixer-upper in Groton, and were pleased that we could have a "project-free summer". Upon moving in I realized that I didn't have enough kitchen space for all of my baking and cooking stuff. Plus, although the kitchen wasn't too small, the layout didn't work for more than one person to cook at a time. So began the 'remodel' talk. Nate and I like to think that we will always hire someone else to do our projects, but when it comes right down to it, either we're too ambitious or too cheap. Over the weekend the remodel started. Here are photos of the Befores. As you can see, the cabinets are dated. And there was always clutter on the counter. (It was usually not this bad though). Here is my main work space - not big enough to roll out sugar cookies or maneuver large meals. This wall separates the kitchen from the dining room. I love the pantry on the side of the fridge, but it was only deep enough for a box of cereal. Some very lovely wallpaper on an unused wall. Just wait until you see the changes!
