Sugar Cookies

Each year I make a goal of something that I'd like to try making or baking in the kitchen. One year it was pies, another it was bread. This year I thought that I could tackle decorated sugar cookies.
Now, I love to make cookies, but I've always been intimidated by rolled out cookies. Not any more! I found a great recipe for sugar cookies at Good Things Catered. They rolled out very well. I was hoping to get one dozen of decent looking cookies. But instead I got three dozen!

I thought it would be neat to work with royal icing, so I found a recipe and a how to at Bake at 350. So armed with the icing and some patience, I got to work.

I'm happy to report that my first time decorating cookies went well. They don't look professional by any means, but they look quite nice.

Nate and Caroline, my official taste-testers, thought they were very good. The cookies were firm but not too crisp. And the vanilla and almond flavors worked very well together. The frosting got really hard (it was supposed to) so transporting cookies was a breeze!

Trust me, if I can make sugar cookies anyone can!
